Edible Landscaping

Use seasonal landscaping to connect humans with nature, and with each other.

Landscaping has the power to connect people with the natural world in which we live. Today, youth and many adults are so removed from the natural world that there is no understanding of the growing season for food, or the delight of picking and eating fresh fruits and vegetable from the tree or vine. By making common area landscaping mostly edible, children can learn about seasonality just by walking down the street. Such a strategy encourages active living by creating delightful public environments, supports diverse ecological communities, and contributes to a unique neighborhood food culture. This Pattern includes:

  •      The Delight of Food
  •      The Agrarian Lifestyle
