Data Infrastructure

Treat light poles as valuable public assets able to support advanced data in the future.

Connected vehicles, connected cities, and the internet of things are beginning to show up in our communities. Street lighting poles are already spread out in most cities, and are available as the ideal real estate for hosting technology. Connectivity equity for all people is now possible by using this existing infrastructure. Care needs to be given to structuring data agreements and access to ensure equity and communal benefit. While there are important issues to consider, there is great potential for leveraging infrastructure as data nodes in an increasingly technological world. This Pattern includes:

  •      The Internet of Things
  •      Open Source Issues
  •      Franchise Agreement Considerations
  •      Autonomous vs. Networked Vehicles
  •      Controls
