Increase "expressive surface area" in cities and make a place for creative ecology to flourish!

Making a place for visual artists, hackers, performers, and unconventional creative spaces keeps cities creative, culturally vital, and healthy. We need to quickly take stock of remaining available public space, get creative, and try stuff. Burning Man encourages people to live a more expressive life. One way to do that is to increase the “expressive surface area” of cities. This could be through turning infrastructure into art, updating policies to make it easier for artists to share their passion with the public, or ensuring economic programs make it possible for artists to remain in communities. This Pattern includes:

  •      Flavor and Soul
  •      Increase Expressive Surface Area
